My Birthday-Loraine Masiya Mponela

My birthday (written January 2022)
On the 3rd of January is the day
I was introduced to this life
and what a wonder it has been.

challenged to the core
and blessed to unseen heights
I have health of the best kind

but also a mental mind
which has been challenged
beyond measure

I laugh and cry in mid sentence
and wonder and be appalled
in the same second.

Life is full of wonder and mystery
I have enjoyed and celebrated it all
Knowing that I am not the creator

of one single little thing
and that when I close my eyes for the last time
I won’t take anything with me.

makes me wonder why the hustle and bustle
for after all we have one life
and when it’s gone it’s gone

I pray
that may my life touch others
in better ways

for when it’s gone
a small dirt mound and memories
is all that shall remain

blessed I shall remain
blessed as I celebrate my birthday with y’all
